Tomorrow Dan has a big day...

After being told there is not much that can be done for Dan at yesterday's appointment, we asked the cardiologist and surgeon if we could have Dan's records sent to a few other hospitals. Knowing that a new chief of cardiology surgery was due to arrive soon at PCMC, we asked them to also send the records to him. The new chief of cardiology surgery, Dr Peter Gruber, replied today and mentioned that a heart catheterization may help Dan's blood oxygen levels increase and increase his life span. So... tomorrow Dan will go in to have a cath, which should ideally open one of his veins and boost his blood oxygen levels. Please continue those prayers for our sweet little Dan. We love you all so much. I have been the recipient of a great miracle already, Dan is still here! He is 2 weeks old today! Best 2 weeks of my life.

What is a catheterization?

Dan will also be having the balloon valvuloplasty done.

In balloon valvuloplasty, a thin tube (catheter) with a small deflated balloon at its tip (balloon-tipped catheter) is inserted through the skin in the groin area into a blood vessel, and then is threaded up to the opening of the narrowed heart valve. The balloon is inflated to stretch the valve open and relieve the valve obstruction.
