Wrist update
Well I went in on Thursday Nov 12th to my follow up appointment feeling pretty confident that i would not need surgery. My wrist was feeling a little better, swelling was gone, fingers were moving. But turns out Dr said surgery was needed. I busted my arm GOOD! He said if i were a 68 yr old woman it would be fine to go on w/out surgery, but since im only 23 and right handed it would be the better choice. i would have problems down the road and they would have to re-break my arm and then do surgery. so since we have insurance.. okay. so he said first thing friday morning we would do surgery, only to come back 5 mins later and say i would be going in for surgery THAT night! (i heard him say he was going to his cabin in the morning--haha) So luckily i hadn't eaten anything all day, so i was able to do the surgery that night. It was like noon and i hadnt eaten anything yet cuz my mother-in-law and i were going to go to lunch after the appt (and i said i was pretty confident i wouldnt need surgery) so i was pretty much starving for the next 5 hours until surgery. my mother-in-law was so sweet she made me stay with her to keep me distracted and not thinkin about going into surgery. we picked up my little sis-in-law from school and then went to my house so i could change into some comfy clothes, take off my wedding ring, take out my contacts. Then we went to newgate mall and walked around at the mall for a bit to kill more time. (i looked hideous!!) i was pretty much wearing my pj's, no makeup, and my glasses! yuck, glad i didnt see anyone i know! haha. They took me to the mt ogden surgical center and tyler was already there waitin for us. They went home and Tyler stayed, and my mom came a little later too. My mom stayed until my surgery was complete shes the best! My arm was still bruised from having my IV at the emergency room when i broke it, so the dude did my IV on the top of my arm.. IT WAS THE WORST THING EVER! i dont know if its cuz my arms are so little or what, but it killed me. He told me he could tell i work out and am an active person cuz it was really hard to get the needle in because i had muscles around my veins. WEIRD! that was the worst part. well, that and we had to wait forever cuz they forgot to call the doctor! i could hear the nurses talkin in the hallway and one was like "did u call dr B?" and shes like "um no i thought u called him!" haha so he came running in the room about 40 mins late. but thats ok. then they took me back and knocked me out :) woke up with a new cast on, which im mad.. they gave me a white cast! it will get so dirty.. i hope they will let me change it! anyway, the surgeon put 2 huge pins in my arm to hold my radius together. they are sick lookin at them in the xrays.. yes i can totally feel them in my arm, it is awful and it hurts really bad. my cast is just to my elbow now though instead of all the way up my shoulder so thats good! when my arm doesnt hurt i will be able to move it and actually ponytail my hair by myself!!! :) yesterday i seriously only got out f bed twice! and so far today i have only been up once. it really hurts! it was ok yesterday, it hurt and everything, but i kept icing it all day (supposed to ice for 72 hours) this morning at 7am i woke up though and ohhhh myyyyy hecccccccckkkkk. i was in so much pain i started to cry. tyler had to get up and get me a new ice pack and i actually took 2 percocet! those actually did the trick, took pain away and knocked me out til about 1! so that was good. i just dont dare try and move it though... uggggghhhh, i do not like the way these pins feel. they arent little pins, they are huge long ones that stick out of my skin, folded over onto my arm and under my cast. i can see the bulge of them through my cast. they are about as thick as a wire hanger. my break is so severe the Dr said this is usually the kind of break he sees when someone falls off of a ladder, or from somewhere high up. Crazy huh??? i dont know how i managed to do this to myself. I will have this cast on and the pins in for 4 weeks, the Dr said we can take it off before Dec 19th for sure!! Thats when i leave for Maui. I will still have to wear a removable cast/brace thing though to keep it supported. But im so glad cuz i will be able to get in the ocean! I think it looks like i will get my cast off on Dec 11.. i think. If im feeling ok, im gonna try and go back to work on Mon Nov. 23rd. i really hope i can, i have been so bored! and we need the money too. This is the worst! only uphill from here though. :) i'll put the pics of my xrays w/the pins on here in a couple days or something. i also have a pic w/ my huge purple cast.
